Title: The Wonderful Power Of The Blood Of Christ
Bible Book: Romans 3 : 25
Author: Jesse M. Hendley
Subject: Grace; Hope; Blood of Jesus; Salvation
Objective:
Introduction
Romans 3:25
I. The Blood of Christ Satisfies God’s Wrath
The blood of Christ completely satisfies God about our past sins. Romans 3:25, "Whom God set forth to be a propitiation through faith, by His blood, to show His righteousness because of the passing over of sins, done aforetime, in the forbearance of God."
Paul has just stated that every person's mouth is stopped, and the whole world is guilty before God. God is holy. God hates sin! There is no playing about it. His wrath must strike somewhere! What hope is there, then, for any one of us? God gives His answer in verse 25: HE SET FORTH CHRIST. He gave Christ to be the propitiation. The wrath of God strikes Him instead of us!
Isaiah 53 tells of Christ being OUR RANSOM. "The Lord CAUSED TO STRIKE on Him the iniquity of us all." He laid upon Christ all our iniquity. God says that our salvation is entirely in CHRIST, and completely by FAITH, as we turn to Him with warm hearts of affection and complete trust. What a wonderful, comforting thought it is. When we think of how greatly, and how often, we have sinned against God, and how GOD HATES SIN, and how His wrath HAS ALREADY BEEN FULLY APPEASED, when He struck at Christ and caused the blood of His own Son to be Shed - when we think of this, does it not make us hate sin and love God, constraining us to give Him our life, our all?
Christ's SHED BLOOD is the basis of His MERCY. God provided this so that His mercy could go out unto all, not for our sins only, but for the sins of the whole world. (I John 2:2.)
God's dealings with every individual soul are on the basis of the SHED BLOOD of Christ. To those who ridicule, and reject it, there can be nothing else ahead for them but GOD'S WRATH.
How about the sins of the people before Christ came to the earth? Christ was the Lamb of God, SLAIN FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
II. The Blood of Christ Secures Redemption
THROUGH THE BLOOD OF CHRIST WE ARE REDEEMED. We have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is not something future, but present.
A dying woman was asked if she made peace with God. She answered, "No." "Aren't you afraid to die?"
And she answered, "No. I do not need to make peace with God. Christ made peace for me, on the Cross of Calvary, and I am simply trusting in the peace He made for me."
Happy is the soul who counts his sins forgiven because Christ shed His blood for the remission of the sins of the world. God says this is so, and we have peace when we enter into that truth, claiming the promise of God.
III. The Blood of Christ Keeps Cleansing
THE BLOOD OF CHRIST KEEPS THE EARNEST BELIEVER CLEAN CONSTANTLY. I John 1:7. The Blood has power to cleanse from all sin. From ALL sin. It continually cleanseth, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, year by year. Continually. The cleansing is from the GUILT of sin. 'His blood keeps us GUILT-LESS. His blood can wash the blackest record white. If it were not for the blood of Christ, the records of the best people in the world would be black, black, black. But the blood makes CLEAN. No one can lay anything to the charge of God's elect.
IV. The Blood of Christ Safeguards Against Judgment
THE BLOOD OF CHRIST GUARANTEES SAFETY FROM THE APPROACHING DOOM OF THE GODLESS. Rom. 5:9. Much more then, being justified by His blood, we shall be SAVED FROM WRATH, through HIM. Our sins are put away, and God regards us as though we had never sinned. Sinless! Oh. the power in the blood, and only in the blood! The blood strips us of vile, filthy rags, and clothes us in clean, pure garments in the sight of God. The godless, unregenerate world approaches certain doom and when they stand in the Presence of God, they will not be ready. They will not be prepared, clothed, forgiven, pure in His sight.
V. The Blood of Christ Soothes the Conscience
THE BLOOD OF CHRIST HAS POWER TO CLEANSE THE CONSCIENCE. Heb. 9:14. When a man is awakened to the fact that he is a sinner, guilty and condemned, he wants to do something about it so as to please God and atone for sin. Some men do penance. Some men keep lent. Some men make confessions to men. A sinner wants to make it right and get that condemnation off his conscience.
One time the devil appeared to Martin Luther, that great theologian and man of God, and showed him a long list of sins that Luther had committed, tempting him to believe that there was nothing but despair ahead. Martin looked at the list and said that indeed he was guilty of every sin on the list, but that the Blood of Jesus Christ had already been shed and cleansed him from every sin. At that, he picked up the ink bottle and threw it at the devil, and whenever he was tempted to despair over sin, he just looked at that ink-spot and remembered how he had made the devil flee, saying that the blood had cleansed him.
When we see the power of the shed blood, how it perfectly, completely has already atoned for sin, has already washed us, has already justified us, has already made our soul pleasing to God, then our consciences are relieved from the burden of guilt. Seeing the Blood also frees us from self-effort. We are now at liberty to serve God in freedom from that guilt, not in fear and slavery of sin.
We serve because we are saved; not in order TO BE saved. Our salvation is not a matter of "Do - and thou shalt be saved." It is "Done - on the Cross." Many Christians today do trust Christ but still feel that they must work constantly for the approval of God. When we see the Blood of Christ, we cease to work, to add to our salvation. Working and serving is the privilege, the joy, the desire, the natural response to the Lord for His great love toward us. A Christian looks for chances to serve His Savior because his soul longs to do something for the Lord he now loves. Don't do dead works to commend yourself to God! Go look at the Cross, and see what God sees there, and fall in love with Jesus, and the works will take care of themselves! You'll work, but it will be a service of love, the yearning to do something for Him whom you love.
Some people are not burdened about their sins. Others are burdened and are trying to get rid of that feeling of guilt by their own efforts. Others are burdened but know where to go with their burden to Jesus Christ, looking in faith to the shed blood. In which class are you?
VI. The Blood of Christ Purchased the Church
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST PURCHASED THE CHURCH WITH HIS OWN BLOOD. Acts 20:28. In Revelation 5:9 we read of the church singing a new song: "Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for THOU WAST SLAIN and didst PURCHASE UNTO GOD - WITH THY BLOOD - men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation . . ." So it is not our works, but the blood of Christ, that will bring us into that great day. We are His because He has purchased us.
VII. The Blood of Christ Opens the way to God
WE MAY ENTER INTO THE HOLY PLACE BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS. Hebrews 10:19-20. Boldness to approach God, boldness to come into the presence of God, boldness to have audience with God! How? By the blood of CHRIST. Not of ourselves, but through HIM. God will accept us as we approach through Christ, the Christ who was crucified, buried, risen, ascended, and living to intercede for us today---and it is through His Blood (covering our sins) that God can receive us. If God were here and visible today, how would you approach Him? The day is coming when you SHALL come before Him. How will you stand in His Presence?
Conclusion
Without the Blood of Jesus, there is No Hope
WITHOUT THE BLOOD OF CHRIST YOU WILL HAVE NO ENTRANCE INTO THE HOLY CITY. In Rev. 22:14 we read that only those whose robes are washed can have the right to enter into that City. "Are your garments spot-less? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?"
There is POWER in the blood of Christ. Read the Word of God and see what great and solemn things God has to say about the blood of His Son. Read what the Blood means to God, Who gave Christ to shed that blood for us! If people knew what God says about the Blood of His Son, they wouldn't reject it, they wouldn't trample it, they wouldn't ignore it! THEY WOULD CLAIM IT for the CLEANSING OF THEIR OWN SOUL. THEY WOULD KNOW THAT THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST IS THEIR ONLY HOPE OF HEAVEN.
Friend, what does the blood of Jesus Christ mean to you? If you are still in your sins, you need to repent of sin and throw yourself upon the mercy of Christ to save you, looking by faith to that crimson Cross where He cancelled out your sin-debt in full. See in Christ your substitute. See on Christ, the wrath of Almighty God poured out upon the innocent Holy One instead of upon the guilty sinner. Make sure that you are trusting Jesus alone to carry you safely through death and save your soul from eternal Hell. There will be no trace of sin over there! Sin must be gotten rid of, washed away, cleansed completely. And God says that only the blood of Christ can so cleanse your soul. Identify yourself today with the Christ of the Cross! Accept Him as your Savior and Lord. Get ready to enter into that City Beyond! Will you do it?
