I must have the wrong number.

It is interesting the number of times that I have answered the telephone with a simple hello only to hear someone on the other end of the line confidently state, "I must have the wrong number." Usually they can tell by the sound of my voice that it is not the person they expected to answer the telephone.

After answering the telephone at 3:01 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, the caller said, "This is not Felix's Fish Camp is it?"  I confirmed, "No it is not, but let me tell you about the greatest person I know the Lord Jesus Christ." The caller agreed and affirmed that he too was a believer. I told the man that I was the pastor of First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort (Alabama) and invited him to visit with us. He shared that his son-in-law was the pastor of First Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee. I said, "Oh, yes, Frank Lewis." There was a pause on the line and he asked, "How did you know that?" I explained that we both graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana. He confirmed my statement.

I invited Dr. Kendrel Helton, a retired Mobile area dentist, to our church Brotherhood fish fry at First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort the upcoming Saturday. Dr. Helton thanked me for the invitation and also for the encouragement.

When someone calls is it an intrusion or an opportunity for evangelism and encouragement?  Why not take the opportunity to witness the next time someone says, "I'm sorry I must have the wrong number."
